Newport Beach CA is an upscale seaside city that features many fun things to do with kids. It is home to beautiful beaches, world-class shopping, excellent restaurants, and a lively business community. It also is known for its whale watching.
Whale Watching
From December to April, hundreds of Grey Whales swim along the coastline of Laguna Beach and Newport Harbor to mate and calve in the warmer waters brought in by the current. These large, awe-inspiring animals are easy to spot from the water and are a popular destination for visitors.
The city’s whale-watching companies take guests out on daily excursions that almost always put them in close proximity to these magnificent creatures. Depending on the season, other marine wildlife may be present as well including dolphins, seals, and sharks.
Boating
There are five private yacht clubs and Orange Coast College, UC Irvine, and the Sea Scouts that organize various boating activities and racing events in Newport Harbor. The town has a 21-square-mile (46 km2) harbor area that houses more than 9,000 boats and is a popular location for sailing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and other water sports.
Balboa Island
The peninsula of Balboa Island in Newport Beach is known for its historic amusement park, the Balboa Fun Zone. It has a bayfront boardwalk and two ocean boardwalks. It is a favorite place for walking, biking, jogging and sightseeing.
Corona del Mar State Beach
This popular beach is located in the heart of Newport Beach. It was the setting for scenes from numerous movies and TV shows.

They are a part of the Newport Beach Fire Department and are a member of the United States Lifesaving Association. They also provide emergency medical services.

The whale watching trips offered by Newport Landing are ideal for the whole family. During the whale migration period from December to April, it is possible to view a variety of whale species, including killer whales, finback whales, and blue whales.
