Care Packages are a Great Way to Celebrate Special Occasions

Mar 15

When you love someone and can’t always be with them, sending Care Packages for seniors is an excellent way to show them that they are loved and thought of. Whether your elderly friend or family member lives in a nursing home, assisted living facility or their own home, a thoughtful care package can brighten their day.

The type of gifts in a care package can vary depending on your loved one’s dietary needs, entertainment preferences and personal hygiene needs. For example, if your elderly loved one has dry skin you could add lotion and lip balm to their care package. For those who have trouble getting around you can include a pair of comfortable slippers and socks. For a loved one that enjoys reading you can include books, either on tape or in large print, or a journal and special pens. Puzzle books and coloring books are also fun and can help to stimulate the brain.

If your loved one has a sweet tooth, you can include their favorite candy or cookies in their care package. Be sure to choose items that won’t spoil easily and consider any dietary restrictions your loved one may have. For those with limited mobility, you can add in a couple of games like crossword puzzles or Sudoku to keep their minds active and help stave off boredom. You can also find many online subscription services that allow you to send your elderly loved one a monthly surprise box of tea, beauty products or even treats like fun socks.

A care package is an excellent opportunity to share some fun photos of your loved one, especially if they have dementia or Alzheimer’s and have difficulty remembering who you are. You can include a photo album or framed photos and be sure to label them with their name and date so they will know who each photo is of. You can even add in a copy of their last family picture together or a photo from a memorable outing.

Another way to keep your senior loved ones entertained is by adding in some board games like Monopoly, Scrabble or card games. If your elderly loved ones are unable to get out much, these games can be a great way for them to socialize and spend time with their friends.

Care packages are a great way to celebrate special occasions, such as birthdays or anniversaries but they can also be sent on random days just to let your elderly loved ones know that you’re thinking about them.

To make a care package extra special you can include a framed photograph of them with you, a handwritten note from their children or grandchildren, something handmade from you, “coupons” for tasks you can do for them (like cleaning or walking the dog), a beautiful plant or flower and a cute little surprise like a stuffed animal or a fun pen. These personal touches will make their care package more meaningful and give them a sense of self-worth, which is important for those who live in long-term care facilities or their own homes.
